Beneficiary Awareness Week kickoff
Welcome to Beneficiary Awareness Week.
Did you know electing and maintaining your beneficiaries can be one of the most important, if not overlooked, things each of us should do on a regular basis? Maybe you recall completing these forms when first hired or have had one or two life events along the way and you already made updates. However, life's circumstances change frequently. Your benefits and retirement vendors are required by law to honor the most recent written designations — even if that means an ex-spouse or someone who you would no longer wish to receive these benefits. This happens more frequently than most realize, and we do not want your family and friends affected that way.
As you may have seen in a previous K-State Today article, Human Capital Services benefits will be publishing articles each day this week to provide valuable information about designating your beneficiary(ies) for retirement benefits, life insurance benefits and flexible savings accounts.
At 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, a virtual educational session will be offered for all employees to learn more about who can be named as a beneficiary, how to update designations, when to consider beneficiary changes and much more. We will also include time for Q&A at the end of the session. If you are interested in learning more, we encourage you to register online for Friday's session at the K-State Beneficiary Education Session Registration link. Additional future sessions and enhanced online resources are being developed for those who are unable to attend.
As always, HCS benefits is glad to help. Please contact your support team at benefits@k-state.edu with any questions or concerns.
