Attend the Pre-Law Personal Statement Workshop Oct. 14
Submitted by Cadence Ciesielski
Get help with your personal statement for law school applications at our Personal Statement Workshop at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, in 123 Leadership Studies Building. Jim Hohenbary, director of the Office of Nationally Competitive Scholarships, will guide you through exercises to help you make the most of your two pages by developing your ideas and cultivating your story. Hohenbary will specifically address how to talk about your COVID-19 experience.
No preparation is required to attend this workshop. You are welcome to bring a draft of your personal statement. If you don't have a draft, bring a list of your experiences or anecdotes about how your legal goals have evolved. The goal of this session is to provide you with the tools to improve or complete your draft.
For all attendees, we will have a raffle for a copy of "1L of a Ride," a perennial favorite book for students preparing for law school. Raffle tickets will be handed out at the sign-in table, and the winner will be announced during the presentation.
About the presenter:
- Hohenbary earned a Bachelor of Arts in English literature from Truman State University and a Master of Arts in English literature at Kansas State University, both with an emphasis in creative writing. He continues to write when time permits, and his first novel, "Before the Ruins," was published in fall 2019.
- He started his career at K-State as an open option advisor before moving into a scholarship advising role in 2000. He is also currently, the associate director of the University Honors Program. In all of these roles, Hohenbary has enjoyed helping students refine their goals for the future and find meaningful ways to enhance their college experiences, both inside and outside the classroom.
