School of Music, Theatre, and Dance honors retiring faculty

Submitted by Kurt Gartner

K-State School of Music, Theatre, and Dance will honor retiring faculty Cora Cooper and Paul Hunt with a reception at 4:30 p.m. today in the lobby of the Purple Masque Theatre. Colleagues and friends of the honorees are invited to attend.

Cooper, professor of violin and viola, joined the K-State faculty in 1990. She earned graduate degrees in violin performance at the Eastman School of Music and Florida State University. At K-State, she focused her research interests on music by women composers.

Hunt, professor of trombone, joined the K-State faculty in 1998. He served as music department head for eight years and has had a long and successful career as a solo and chamber trombonist, composer and conductor  — particularly in musical theatre.

Students of both Cooper and Hunt have had successful careers in the performance world as well as in higher education.
