Naibo honored by Kansas State Office for the Advancement of Women in Science and Engineering
Virginia Naibo, professor of mathematics, is the 2021-2022 recipient of the Kansas State Office for the Advancement of Women in Science and Engineering Award.
This award honors exceptional efforts undertaken by a K-State faculty or staff member to enrich girls' and women's lives in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines. Naibo will be recognized with an engraved plaque at the annual Women of Distinction Recognition Ceremony on Sept. 20 and will receive a $500 award.
Naibo’s dedication to enriching the lives of girls and women in STEM is inspiring and as her nominator describes “starts young.” For elementary school students, Naibo works with teachers to help them make math fun for students. She has also served as a facilitator for the Office’s GROW workshops for middle school students. She has also organized an outreach program, Sonia Kovalevsky Day, for her department. She has also served as a role model and mentor to many undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in addition to her commitment to ensuring that women faculty in professional organizations have a chance to network at conferences.
