Submitted by Communications and Marketing

After a national search, the office of the provost has announced that Jana Fallin has been hired as director for the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning.

Fallin, professor in music education and University Distinguished Teaching Scholar for 2002-2003, served as the interim director for the center in the past year. During that time, Fallin has collaborated with groups on campus to develop a number of new programs targeting faculty development, including the Spotlight on K-State and Engaged Faculty events, as well as the upcoming Year of the Brain for 2013-2014.

During her year as the Coffman Chair for University Distinguished Teaching Scholars, she designed "Engaging the Learner," a DVD illustrating exemplary teaching strategies and instructional methods and ideas from Kansas State University faculty. She is the author of two books, "Face the Music" and "Using Music to Enhance Student Learning."

Fallin served as division chair of music education in K-State's School of Music, Theatre, and Dance for 23 years and as coordinator for the Faculty Exchange for Teaching Excellence from 2009-2010. She received the Stamey teaching award twice and is listed in Outstanding Women of America and as Outstanding Senior Woman at Baylor University. Her publications are included in Music Educators Journal, Journal of Music Teacher Education and Mountain Lake Reader.

She received her bachelor's degree from Baylor University and her master's and doctorate from the University of Texas. She joined the Kansas State University faculty as an associate professor in 1988 after serving at Peabody College/Vanderbilt University, University of Southwestern Louisiana and the University of Northern Iowa.
