New exhibit available in Hale Library

Submitted by Cailin Riley

A new exhibit in the first-floor Sunflower entrance of Hale Library, "Disasters: Stories We Share," showcases how community and media-based narratives of disasters affect community and civic response. Each panel of the exhibit describes disasters and their impacts, explores the building of meaning around such events and considers the varied impacts of disasters on communities.

This traveling exhibit allows participating hosts to contribute by documenting a local disaster in a custom panel. Organizers of Hale Library's participation in this exhibit have chosen to focus on the Great Flood of 1951, which was one of the most devastating and costly floods in Kansas history.

Images, quotes and other materials from the community will be incorporated into the custom panel.

The exhibit, which will be available at the Libraries until mid-summer, is supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities. To learn more, please visit the exhibit website.
