CARE to host 'At Your Cervix' documentary screening and conversation with filmmaker
In observance of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the Center for Advocacy, Response and Education, or CARE, will host a documentary screening of the film "At Your Cervix" and a conversation with the filmmaker at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 10, in the Purple Masque Theatre.
A small reception will follow. The event will not be virtually streamed or recorded.
The documentary follows sexuality educator, activist and filmmaker, A'magine, on her journey to expose the unethical and often traumatic ways medical and nursing students are taught to perform pelvic exams on anesthetized patients without their consent.
The event is open to anyone in the campus community who may be interested in the topics of medicine, gynecology, gender-based violence, human sexuality, race and institutional abuse.
This film contains some content that may be graphic or distressing — e.g. medical abuse, sexual violence and surgical images. CARE will have advocates available before, during and after the event to provide support and resources for those affected.
CARE provides free, voluntary and confidential services to individuals experiencing stalking, sexual harassment, relationship violence and sexual violence. The CARE office is 206 Holton Hall. Walk-ins are welcome from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office phone number is 785-532-6444.
