Volunteers needed to host Fulbright program students for dinners
Submitted by Leena Chakrabarti
From July 22-Aug. 12, the English Language Program at Kansas State University will host a group of Fulbright graduate students from around the world for a pre-academic program.
Families and community member volunteers are needed to host two to three students for an evening meal on two Sundays — July 30 and Aug. 6 — or other evenings as available. The families will be invited to a welcome dinner on July 23 to meet with their students. They are also welcome to join in other program activities and will have the chance to spend a few afternoons with their students if they wish.
While at K-State, the participants will study English and learn about the U.S. academic system and U.S. culture before beginning graduate programs in fields ranging from architecture to law at other universities across the country.
In keeping with the purpose of the Fulbright mission to promote mutual understanding and peace between other countries and the United States, the group will have opportunities to experience American culture and interact with the local community while they are in Manhattan.
If you enjoy meeting international students, and if you would like to show genuine Midwestern hospitality to them, please contact Leena Chakrabarti, associate director, at leena@k-state.edu.
