Student playwright selected in national contest
Submitted by the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance
Second-year theatre student Emmett Spaw's play, "Clean," was recently selected by the Northern Arizona Playwriting Showcase.
The play, written in the Playwriting course under the direction of Professor David Mackay, concerns roommates. Mark and Teddy are close roommates with an important pact: No more alcohol. Mark is handling it surprisingly well. Teddy is not. When a looming job interview puts the latter on edge, desperate measures are taken. But Teddy never expected Mark to get home early.
Spaw notes, "My inspiration for this piece came from David's Playwriting class last semester. It all started with a bottle of hand sanitizer, and here we are now."
The Northern Arizona Playwriting Showcase drew from a nationwide pool of writers from coast to coast. Spaw will travel to Arizona to attend the reading this fall.
