Submitted by the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance

Goins

Wayne Goins, university distinguished professor of music, was invited to perform as a featured jazz guitarist in the prestigious 2023 Rocky Mountain Archtop Guitar Festival in Arvada, Colorado.

Goins will perform during the Saturday, Sept. 9, evening festivities, along with an impressive lineup of world-class jazz guitarists from across the country. The annual festival takes place as a highlight for luthiers from around the globe to display their archtop jazz guitars as members of their sponsored artist roster deliver lectures, clinics and performances that feature the guitars and craftsmanship in a variety of settings.

Goins first participated in the event in September 2022, where he was not only invited to perform but was offered an artist endorsement deal for Benedetto Guitars from Howard Paul, the president of the company based in Savannah, Georgia. This year, Goins will receive a custom-built Benedetto Bravo Deluxe model guitar engraved with his name on the tailpiece, with the body of the guitar detailed in his preferred custom color of Wildcat purple.

Goins is the director of jazz studies at Kansas State University. He has performed with such greats as legendary guitarist Kenny Burrell, alto saxophonist Bobby Watson, trumpeter Clark Terry, tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano, organist Jimmy McGriff and many others. He has authored a number of award-winning books and articles. Learn more about Goins.
