Housing and Dining Services planning student scholar housing improvements
Submitted by Housing and Dining Services
K-State Housing and Dining Services is seeking approval from the Kansas Board of Regents and the Kansas Legislature for a $32 million renovation of the historic Strong Community, which includes Boyd, Putnam and Van Zile halls.
The renovation plans include improvements and upgrades to student rooms, restrooms, community spaces, utilities, technology, and an updated dining and retail space.
Additionally, in partnership with the Staley School of Leadership and the University Honors Program, the Strong Community will be the future home of the University Honors Program. Boyd Hall will include space for new program offices and significant community space for honors students. The Strong Community will offer dynamic living areas and support for honors students and students affiliated with various other scholarly groups and identities across campus.
The renovations are needed due to anticipated enrollment and occupancy increases. Under the proposed plan, it is anticipated the current Honors House will close, and the Honors community will relocate to Putnam and Van Zile halls in fall 2024. Boyd Hall will be the first to undergo a significant renovation in 2024. Putnam and Van Zile renovations will follow in 2025-2026.
Opportunities for students and other stakeholders to provide design input will occur after an architect is hired.
