Kastner to serve as interim director of university honors program
Dear colleagues,
Justin Kastner has been appointed as interim director of the university honors program for the fall 2013 semester. As he has before in other contexts, Justin is committed to helping honors students in their scholarly, career and personal development.
A K-State alumnus who earned graduate degrees in the U.K. and Canada as a Fulbright and Truman scholar, Justin is an associate professor in the department of diagnostic medicine and pathobiology. Over the last decade, he has pioneered the innovative Frontier program, a federally funded career development program for undergraduate and graduate students from a wide range of disciplines and universities. Hallmarks of the Frontier program include student-centered workshops and experiential field trips to such diverse venues as Washington, D.C., the Ports of Los Angeles and Baltimore, historical archives in Kansas City and rural Virginia, and land border crossings in southern New Mexico, all designed to inspire intellectual curiosity and develop scholarly skill sets.
Justin teaches courses emphasizing critical thinking and writing, the history of public health, and globalization and trade policy; amongst these, he teaches an online undergraduate course, Scholarship in a Busy Age, aimed at helping students rediscover the joy of learning in today’s multitasking, information-overloaded society.
Please join me in congratulating and supporting Justin Kastner of the College of Veterinary Medicine as he undertakes this new and important work on behalf of Kansas State University.
