K-State jazz group performs for Hale Library Concert Series

Submitted by the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance

The KSU Faculty Jazz Sextet gave a recent performance for Jazz in June as part of the Hale Library Concert Series, hosted by faculty member Craig Parker.

Members of the sextet include Wayne Goins, university distinguished professor of music, on guitar; Paul Hunt, retired music faculty member, on trombone; Kurt Gartner, professor of percussion, on drums; Michael Brown, K-State Jazz assistant director, on bass; Doug Ragon, former graduate and jazz ensemble student, on piano; and Nate McClendon, museum specialist at the Beach Museum of Art, on saxophone. Hunt also served as emcee.

The group weaved its way through a themed performance, "Jazz Goes To the Movies." The setlist included such tunes as "Alfie's Theme," "Round Midnight," "Laura," and "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off."

The group performed for an enthusiastic audience — tickets were sold out well in advance, so the house was completely full.
