Arp-Dunham presents at international conferences
Submitted by the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance
Joelle Ré Arp-Dunham, teaching assistant professor in the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, was a featured actor in the international conference, Stanislavsky and Actor Training for the Screen, with the the Stanislavsky Research Centre in London in May.
In June, she presented "Liberating the Actor with Stanislavsky's Active Analysis" at the Stanislavsky and America symposium also with the Stanislavsky Research Centre.
Both presentations explored her practice as research into the process of acting in both theatre and film.
Arp-Dunham is a consent-based director, actor, intimacy choreographer and educator in both theatre and film. In addition to directing more than 50 productions and teaching countless acting classes, she was the founder and producing artistic director of the professional nonprofit Circle Ensemble Theatre Company in Athens, Georgia for eight years. Her current scholarly research applies concepts from behavioral neuroscience to Stanislavsky's methodologies and theories to give performance scholars a richer and more precise understanding of Stanislavsky's work, while allowing teachers and directors to zero in on the techniques that are most likely to help them achieve their goals — all in safer, braver spaces for the entire production team.
