Goins delivers jazz concert to sellout crowd in Wichita
Submitted by the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance
Wayne Goins, university distinguished professor of music, gave an impressive performance at Walkers Jazz Lounge, the premier jazz venue in Wichita.
Goins delivered a performance on June 22 with a backing trio of tenor saxophone, acoustic bass and drums. It was the second time he has performed there as a headline artist.
His first concert at Walkers occurred on Feb. 24, when he received the first standing ovation in the club's history, according to Walker Jones, the club's manager. The second one occurred during this recent club performance after the quartet finished delivering a two-hour set of classic jazz standards to an standing-room only crowd.
Goins has performed with such greats as legendary guitarist Kenny Burrell, alto saxophonist Bobby Watson, trumpeter Clark Terry, tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano, organist Jimmy McGriff and many others. Learn more.
