Rubin receives 2024 N4A Distinguished Service Award
Lisa Rubin, professor of special education, counseling, and student affairs, received the Distinguished Service Award at the 2024 National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals, or N4A, conference June 9-12 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Distinguished Service Award is presented annually to a N4A member whose contributions to the organization are above and beyond the normal service required by positions of leadership. They must have served in a N4A leadership position at the regional or national level and have made significant contributions that are recognized by N4A peers. They must also have continuous N4A membership for five years.
Rubin, who has been a member of N4A since 2005, was completely surprised when the award was presented.
"I had no idea I would be receiving this incredible honor," Rubin said. "I am truly grateful to be a part of an organization led by so many volunteers," Rubin said.
Marissa Nichols, associate athletics director of student-athlete development at the University of California, Berkeley, nominated Rubin for the award.
"Dr. Rubin has been an exemplary figure of service within academia and student-athlete development," Nichols said. "In addition to her scholarly pursuits, her teaching and mentorship is unwavering. Her work as a faculty member has helped shape practitioners across our industry in doing the work they do today. Lisa has completely underscored her dedication to advancing our field through her leadership."
