Name change for the Richard L. D. and Marjorie J. Morse Department of Archives and Special Collections
The Richard L. D. and Marjorie J. Morse Department of Special Collections has been renamed the Richard L. D. and Marjorie J. Morse Department of Archives and Special Collections.
The addition of "archives" to the name better reflects the department's holdings and mission. In fact, the university archives have the largest footprint of holdings in the department and receives the most frequent use from patrons. It includes institutional records, as well as documentation of student and university-affiliated organizations, student life and culture, and faculty and staff contributions.
The department also holds the Consumer Movement Archives, which contains a significant number of collections related to efforts to support consumer protections in the United States.
"Including archives in our department name more accurately describes the collections we preserve and make available for learners and researchers," said Cliff Hight, department head. "We look forward to continuing to share these essential resources in ways that align with K-State's vision to inspire learning, creativity, discovery and engagement in Kansas and around the world."
The name change provides greater awareness that the university's archives are housed within the department and highlights their importance and contributions to the university.
