Megan Bourns, doctoral student in agronomy, and Logan Britton, assistant professor of agricultural economics, have been named recipients of criterion-based teaching awards by the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture, or NACTA. They received this recognition on June 27 at the 70th NACTA Annual Conference in Wooster, Ohio.

Bourns received the Graduate Student Teaching Award. She has served as a graduate teaching assistant in the agronomy department and a lead instructor for multiple Soils Lab sections. Her research focuses around applied soil fertility for production and environmental benefits. Bourns earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Manitoba.

Britton was recognized with the NACTA Educator Award. He teaches courses in computer decision tools, contemporary issues in global food and agricultural systems, agricultural finance, and agribusiness logistics. His research interests include consumer behavior, agribusiness supply chains, and the scholarship of teaching and learning. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from K-State and his doctoral degree from Oklahoma State University.

Both award categories are conferred upon faculty with teaching appointments and graduate students who actively participate in classroom instruction or demonstrate excellence as teaching assistants in agriculture disciplines. Nomination packets are reviewed by a committee of NACTA members and evaluated based on the candidate's teaching philosophy, involvement in teaching outside the classroom, self-evaluation, evaluations from students, administrators, supervising faculty and/or colleagues.

NACTA is a professional society focused on promoting, recognizing and rewarding excellence in teaching agriculture and related areas at the post-secondary level in North America. Faculty and graduate students are recognized annually for outstanding research within the scholarship of teaching and learning and teaching through its various award programs.
