K-State Amatuer Radio Club special event station operation
The amateur radio club at K-State will take part in the K-State Radio Centennial: A Century of Sound and Service commemorating 100 years of broadcasting with a special event station from Sept. 8-15. The club will operate from campus using the amateur radio special event call sign K0S. The special event call sign has been issued by the Federal Communications Commission specifically for this commemorative occasion to promote K-State and its history of 100 years of broadcasting. The amateur radio club at K-State has been in operation since 1927 under the call sign W0QQQ.
The amateur radio club will be using the club station facilities on the fourth floor of Seaton Hall during the week to contact domestic and international amateur radio operators. The club plans to set up a remote station at the base of the original broadcast towers, found next to Nichols Hall, for the Celebration of the Towers events on September 13.
Visitors are encouraged to stop by during station operation, at the Seaton Hall club station during the week and at the remote station location to learn more about amateur radio. While under the supervision of licensed operators, visitors will have the opportunity to get on the air and contact other amateur radio operators.
