Advisor Forum presents August Charlie Award
The K-State Advisor Forum announces that Emily Mann, academic advisor for the College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s office, has been selected for the August Charlie Award.
Emily was nominated for this award by multiple advisors for the work she has done to impact K-State students' experiences.
“Emily started advising at K-State a year ago and has flourished in her time here," said Elli Archer, advising practices administrator. "Learning about a new university and all of its technology systems is hard enough, and she also took on the role of an Open Option advisor, so she has had to quickly learn all of the majors, minors, certificates, etc. K-State has to offer then quickly switch gears and help support our college as we transition to the new K-State Core curriculum. Emily is a planner — she prepares for every student appointment thinking of every topic or course that could potentially be discussed, and her students have learned to rely on her insight and wealth of knowledge. She never stops learning and asking questions to be the best advisor possible.”
Aryn Hopson, academic advisor, said, “I have enjoyed working with Emily immensely! Her advising knowledge and willingness to help others makes her a fantastic mentor for her colleagues. Emily’s advisees are lucky to have such an amazing advocate in their corner helping them to succeed.”
“I have greatly enjoyed having Emily as a colleague," said Kaela Urquhart, assistant director of interdisciplinary programs. "She is a strong team player and an avid communicator, and she's always willing to bounce ideas around. I know I can trust that a student is in good hands when they have her as their advisor. Her positivity and charm are infectious, and I am excited to see how she continues to grow at K-State.”
Chrissie Patry, academic advisor, said, “Emily is a fantastic advisor and colleague. She brings a fun and thought-provoking attitude to K-State each day. She is continually thinking strategically about each student’s case and frequently does extensive research to help create the most efficient degree plan possible that is mindful of students’ time and money. When students are in a rut, she is ready to help them think strategically about new pathways available to them and the possible outcomes for each. Emily is incredibly passionate in continuing to develop her skills as an advisor that allow her to better serve her students each day. She goes above and beyond to create a space where students feel seen and have all their questions answered. She if often just as excited as the students are — if not more so — when they find a new passion they would like to pursue.”
The K-State Advisor Forum thanks Mann for the work she has done and congratulates her on this award.
