College of Architecture, Planning & Design celebrates success at International Woodworking Fair

Students from the department of interior architecture & industrial design in the College of Architecture, Planning & Design, or APDesign, at Kansas State University have achieved remarkable success at the 2024 International Woodworking Fair, or IWF, held in Atlanta, Georgia, from Aug. 6-9.

The International Woodworking Fair is recognized as the leading woodworking show in North America, attracting professionals and enthusiasts from around the globe. The event offers a platform for innovation, highlighting the latest trends and designs in the woodworking industry, with more than $10,000 in prize money awarded to top entrants.

Michael Aehle, a third-year student in industrial design, won the prestigious award in the Accent Furniture category for his innovative creation, the Sonia Coffee Table. His design stood out among a competitive field of entries, exemplifying excellence in both craftsmanship and design.

In addition to Aehle's award-winning entry, several other APDesign students were named finalists across various categories, highlighting the talent and creativity nurtured within the program:

"APDesign is proud of the outstanding achievements of its students at this year's IWF," said Nathan Howe, professor and department head. "These accomplishments reflect the high standard of education and the emphasis on design innovation within the department of interior architecture & industrial design at Kansas State University.
