Counseling services available at K-State

Submitted by Shawn Funk

As a health-promoting university, Kansas State University is committed to prioritizing the physical, mental and emotional health of our campus.

Lafene Counseling and Psychological Services, or CAPS, is the primary mental health resource for K-State students and provides consultations, workshops, and group and individual therapy, as well as referral information for K-State campus partners and the Manhattan community. CAPS is located in the lower level of Lafene Health Center and is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Students interested in receiving services at CAPS should attend an initial consultation meeting. Initial consultation meetings are 20-30 minutes in length. The purpose of these meetings is to discuss your needs and the services that might be a good option for you. Students can now schedule a same-day or next-day appointment in three ways:

  1. Between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., walk in for first-come, first-served drop-in initial consultation meetings. The earlier you come in the day, the more likely you will be seen the same day.
  2. Via the myLAFENE+ portal, schedule a same-day or next-day appointment.
  3. By calling our office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., schedule a same-day or next-day appointment.

After-hours mental health consultation is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling 785-532-6927. Kansas State University has partnered with TELUS Health Student Support to offer free, confidential, 24/7 support via chat and phone.

Lafene CAPS provides high-quality professional services to help all students meet their full potential — personally, academically and socially.
