Hackemann-Bahlmann receives Library of Congress Research Fellowship
Rebecca Hackemannn-Bahlmann, professor of art, has been awarded the National Stereoscopic Association Fellowship at the Library of Congress and will travel to Washington D.C. in 2025 to study photographic and print holdings.
Her project, "Moral Panic and New Technology across Time," explores the reception of new technology in the past. For example, red flag laws instituted for cars, the arc light, the telegram, electric lighting that was thought to be unhealthy, cameras and airships. She will investigate how they were presented to the public in stereographs and photographs, as well as the public’s often humorous reactions.
This research is relevant today because technology is changing faster than ever. Hackemann-Bahlmann will also create a VR environment for a historical stereograph.
