K-State ASAP Program

Submitted by Shawn Funk

Kansas State University is committed to the health and safety of all students. The university's Alcohol and Sexual Assault Prevention, or ASAP, program is using Vector Solutions, a series of online educational training modules designed to help prepare students for issues they may confront at college. The modules cover important topics such as students' rights and responsibilities; preventing sexual violence, dating violence, stalking, harassment and bullying; bystander intervention; substance use; and acting as allies for others in need. Students under the age of 21 will be assigned two modules: Alcohol and Other Drugs, and Sexual Assault and Prevention. Students over the age of 21 will take only the Sexual Assault and Prevention module.

The courses promote a healthier and safer environment for everyone. They also include information about how to recognize, report and prevent sexual violence. The courses are designed to help students and those around them make healthy decisions, understand state laws and university policies, and be aware of university and community resources.

The ASAP training is required for all new students and begins Oct. 15. The courses allow you to work at your own pace from any computer with an internet connection. The required modules may be started, stopped and resumed at any time, and the program will take approximately 100 minutes to complete. Because of its importance, all new students are required to complete the training in its entirety.

The content of the sexual violence education portion of this training may be triggering for some individuals. Please direct triggering concerns and requests for alternative student training options to the K-State Center for Advocacy, Response and Education, or CARE, at 785-532-6444 or email ksucare@k-state.edu.

The topics covered can be sensitive and challenging to explore but are important to address in our community. Students may visit k-state.edu/asap for more information.

Students who experience technical difficulties with the training should contact Lafene Health Center at 785-532-5271 or email asap@k-state.edu.
