Students invited to submit water research for the Governor's Water Conference

Submitted by Sophia Cori

Undergraduate and graduate students are invited to showcase their water-related research by submitting abstracts for the student poster contest at the annual Governor's Water Conference, which will be held Nov. 14 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Manhattan.

Students conducting water quantity, quality or education research are encouraged to submit their posters. In addition to submitting an abstract, participants will provide a short prerecorded lightning presentation to highlight their project and poster. Students involved in the poster competition must register to attend the conference and will receive a discounted registration fee. Registration is available online.

Six cash prizes will be awarded, including: $250 each to the top graduate and undergraduate, $125 each to the two first-place runners-up and $75 each to the two second-place runners-up.

"This is a valuable platform for students to not only share their research but also to engage with professionals tackling the state's most pressing water issues," said Susan Metzger, director of the Kansas Water Institute. "We hope to see a wide range of topics and perspectives represented."

Student project posters will be displayed on the morning of Nov. 14, and awards will be given for the top graduate and undergraduate projects.

The annual conference often has more than 500 participants, including various stakeholders interested in discussions about water resources in Kansas. The two-day event, hosted by the Kansas Water Office, will feature sessions on topics such as drought and flooding, groundwater challenges, water quality, sedimentation and water utility issues.

Entries are due by 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4. Interested students can use the online portal for their submissions.
