Why run for SGA?
With the filing deadlines for the 2025 Student Governing Association elections quickly approaching, you might be looking for reasons to run for a position. Each college on campus has a certain amount of senators who are elected to represent their college. SGA is not just for people interested in government work after graduating.
The following are a few reasons why students love being a part of SGA:
- Leadership experience: Gain valuable experience through serving on the leadership team, serving on committees and more.
- Opportunities to interact with local, state and federal governments: SGA has strong connections at all levels of government and regularly connects with legislators to focus on improving student life at K-State.
- Help improve student life on campus: Be a part of the change on our campus to work toward improving all aspects of campus life. Wildcat Pause Day and Donations for Citations are both great examples of initiatives that came out of SGA.
- Interact directly with K-State's administration: Our administration and SGA have a long history of collaboration and love to work with students to help develop them as campus leaders.
- Experience the fundamentals of how a government is run — SGA operates very similarly to state government and is a great way to learn more about how governments operate.
- Lifelong friendships: Likely the best part of SGA is the friends you'll make. There is not much else like a group of students all passionate about K-State and making it better than they found it.
The deadline to file for student body president and vice president is 11:59 p.m. Feb. 11. The deadline to file for all other positions — student senator, Union Governing Board, Collegian Media Group Student Advisory Committee — is 11:59 p.m. Feb. 25. The 2025 SGA election will take place from 8 a.m. on March 4 to 11:59 p.m. on March 5.
