Students needed for military-connected workshop
The university is seeking input from military-connected students of all stripes — active duty, reserves, veterans, spouses and children — for the "Meet Your Military-Connected Students" workshop. It's from 2:30-4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, in Hale Library's Hemisphere Room.
Kelly Briggs, a College of Education academic advisor and event organizer, explained that the goal is to create awareness and generate the best practices to better serve and connect with K-State's military-connected students.
"Please join the faculty and staff for this insightful and engaging conversation, and come ready to share the unique challenges and situations our military-connected students face while meeting their academic requirements," Briggs said.
Jonathan Hadley, senior in the College of Business Administration, assisted with the event in 2016.
"This event helped shed a light on how we view ourselves within the classroom and the difficulties some service members face when entering the classroom after being away for many years," Hadley said. "The faculty utilized this opportunity to ensure that in the future they have the means for accommodating these students if such a situation arises. In some instances, a few service members suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, could be in need of help. Moments like these are just what that event was meant for, and faculty and staff would be more knowledgeable about the tools and resources available to assist the service member."

The workshop is being co-sponsored by the College of Education Military Initiative Committee, the Teaching and Learning Center, the Institute for the Health and Security of Military Families and Global Campus.
