Sustain compassion
If we strike a tuning fork and it begins to hum and then place another tuning fork that is in tune with the first, it too begins to hum. When we mirror Friends properly, we become like that tuning fork.
The word compassion comes from the Latin cum pati, which means suffering with. When we attune to Friends, we feel their pain, their suffering in our heart.
Finding our center in chaotic circumstances is difficult. When our psychological borders are fragile, chaos can overwhelm us. We can begin to experience Friends’ panic, rage, and grief for ourselves. When this happens, we become a sufferer too and unable to support them. Instead of being a part of the solution, we become part of the problem. |
