Silence can be golden
The problem with silence is that it feels like we are doing nothing. If we remain attentive, silence is not the absence of something. Silence is waiting, an invitation.

When pausing, Friends may be trying to gather their thoughts, recall an experience, and summon the courage to continue. Silence gives them the freedom to choose whether they want to discuss their situation in greater depth. Our silence can encourage Friends to continue, possibly at even a deeper level of personal expression. When they have completed a thought, then we can respond.
