Interesting point. Is it possible to have self-respect by doing
a good job of tearing others down and responding to the suffering
of others with indifference? Nazi soldiers may have whistled
a merry tune while on their way to work at the concentration
camps. They may have been quite pleased with their efficiency.
If you could have looked inside their hearts, though, what
would you have seen? Behind the grinning face there was a
cancer of the soul. At night, when they were alone with themselves,
what did they dream?
