Self-respect as a judgment
To this point, we have discussed how self-respect is a real value. Now let’s move to the second component in our definition of self-respect.

“The real value we place on what we...”

Self-respect cannot be given to us by someone else. Self-respect is a judgment we make about ourselves, based on what psychologists call an internal locus of control. Think about this phrase for a moment before continuing to the next card.
