“Truths” evolve from observations
Second, not only did we learn about ourselves through direct experience, we also formed beliefs by observing others. We formed conclusions, for example, about what it means to be a man or a woman by observing how our parents treated each other. We did something and then observed the reactions of others to what we did. For example, a second grade boy may pull the pigtails of the girl who sits in the desk in front of him because he wants her attention and is curious about how she might respond.
