Even when what a parent says is irrational and unfair, children are likely to accept it as a fact. Not until adolescence do they begin to rationally analyze and make independent judgments about their parents’ statements. By then, these “truths” can be so ingrained in an adolescent’s mind that they resist modification. By their very definition, “truths” are difficult to change.
