We
Although we cannot change what has happened to us, we can choose
how to respond to events. Each person’s history may give
us a “push.” Parents who suffered harsh ridicule as
children may feel the inclination to use sarcasm and ridicule with
their children. They may even feel his push so strongly that it
seems “natural” and inevitable. Neither is true. Although
it can be difficult, we can choose to respond now in a way that
creates a more positive present. The resistance to this “push” is
another form of courage.
