Not everything that cannot be changed can be explained. Finally,
we cannot change what is mysterious about us. Some aspects of ourselves
cannot be explained. For example, we cannot change what we love
to do. One of our children may love music and aspire to be a musician.
We cannot change that. This child cannot force herself to change.
The love of music is just there. In a similar way, we cannot change
who we really like or dislike. There is no way to force ourselves
to like or dislike someone. Certainly they can do something to
affect how attracted or repulsed we might be to them. Our opinion
might change once we get to know someone better. But genuine liking
and disliking are natural experiences.
