This last quality is difficult to explain. Maybe that’s why
it’s mysterious. When we meet someone for the first time
and find ourselves drawn to that person, we have to recognize there
are forces at work inside of us beyond our control. That’s
why it’s so difficult, if not impossible, to get someone
to like our children or to get our children to like someone else.
This personal aspect is a unique combination of our history and
our biology. A controversial example of our mysterious side is
our sexuality. If a person is attracted to someone of the same
sex, is this attraction something a person can deliberately change?
