Let’s use the example of high activity level. A child with
a high activity level is not hyperactive. He or she is simply at
the high range of what is normal. The parent sends the child the
message that she needs to be more sedate and not so “wiggly.” The
child may try to “behave” by reducing her energy level
and high activity. But because low activity is not a part of her
makeup, her true high activity level nature will often reappear,
incurring the anger of her parent. Demanding she slow down is like
expecting a deer to fly.
