Children
need parents to be champions
Our children want to look up to us as heroes. They need someone
to help them learn the difference between right and wrong and then
to stand up for what is right even under difficult circumstances.
In a documentary about parental guidance and discipline, I asked
young troubled teenagers about the kinds of limits their parents
set for them. All agreed that even though they complain and sometimes
disobey, they need parents to be strong people with convictions.
They need them to set and enforce reasonable rules. They know that
sometimes strong but fair enforcement is needed to protect young
teens from themselves.
