Of course, this contract does not always play a vital role in people’s
lives. Many people are more interested in taking than in giving.
There is a cost for placing oneself above all others: diminished
self-respect. Self-respect is based on addition. The more I give
of myself, the more my life expands. The more I focus on myself
alone, the tighter the self-made cocoon becomes. When we withdraw
into ourselves we diminish ourselves.
