Enhance your teaching: Apply for the Peer Review of Teaching Program

Submitted by Jennifer Anthony

K-State faculty are encouraged to apply to the Peer Review of Teaching Program. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15.

The Peer Review of Teaching Program assists faculty members in developing and documenting their teaching. Each participant engages in a yearlong fellowship with a community of scholars to enhance learning within the classroom.

Each faculty member will be paired with a peer, most often from another department, and an experienced teaching mentor. Over the course of the 2019-2020 year, these teams of professors will observe each other's classes and work together to study and enhance different aspects of teaching, such as intellectual content, teaching practices and student understanding.

In addition, the entire group of program fellows and program mentors meet together once per month to share classroom experiences and pedagogical strategies. At the conclusion of the spring semester, faculty combine their memo exchanges and written reflections on this experience into a course portfolio in which they reflect on the success of a course in helping students to learn. These portfolios can enhance the standing of teaching as a serious component of faculty members' careers.

Fall semester activities include participating in a required project orientation the afternoon of Nov. 9, during which the program fellows will collaborate with their faculty peer and mentor to review and revise their spring course syllabus.

Following completion and approval of the course portfolio in spring 2020, each participant will receive $1,000 in faculty development funds.

For the application and more information about the program, please visit the Peer Review of Teaching website.
