Sociologist wins Excellence in Scholarship Award from Agriculture, Food, and Human Values Society

Matthew R. Sanderson, Randall C. Hill distinguished professor of sociology, anthropology, and social work and professor of sociology, was awarded the Excellence in Scholarship Award from the Agriculture, Food, and Human Values Society.
The award was given to recognize his work, published in a series of articles, on the relationship between farmers' values and their agricultural decision-making processes, especially regarding water use and conservation. This work has appeared over the preceding three years in Social Problems; Agriculture and Human Values; Climatic Change; Water Resources Research; Journal of Soil and Water Conservation; Journal of the American Water Resources Association; Journal of Hydrology; and Environment, Development and Sustainability.
Sanderson was presented the award in June in Anchorage, Alaska, at the annual meeting of the Agriculture, Food, and Human Values Society. The society was founded in 1987 to promote the study of values associated with the production, consumption and distribution of food, fiber and natural resources; and aid understanding of the values that underlie alternative visions of food and agricultural systems.
