.010 Introduction

Kansas State University, Department of Communications and Agricultural Education operates the in-plant printer, University Printing. This chapter clarifies and delineates when on-campus printing and mailing services through University Printing should be used.

.020 University Printing

University Printing serves as the official on-campus Kansas State University printer. University Printing partners with campus and affiliated units to represent the University through unified brand and identity alignment. As an in-house service function, University Printing’s priority is to ensure its products meet quality standards that accurately promote the University’s brand.

University Printing is the preferred source of printing and bulk mailing services to maintain the integrity of the Kansas State University brand. It is a service-clearing unit of the University and does not receive budgeted funds. University Printing is a full-service printing, duplicating, and distribution facility, fully equipped and staffed to meet all university printing and distribution demands. Services include but are not limited to:

  • digital printing/copying (black and white and full color)
  • large format printing, poster printing/mounting
  • vinyl and latex graphics
  • offset printing
  • Indoor and outdoor banner printing
  • signs/signage
  • customized promotional items
  • bindery/finishing
  • bulk-mailing
  • shipping
  • die-cutting
  • customized packaging, and
  • related printing and shipping services.

University Printing manages the bulk mail permit for Kansas State University and provides shipping and distribution services.

.030 Printing Services

Kansas State University departments, units, organizations, students, and affiliated organizations who print and/or distribute materials with the intent to educate, promote, or serve Kansas State University stakeholders are strongly encouraged to use print and distribution services through University Printing, regardless of the source of funds used – general use, restricted use, grant or research funding, or KSU Foundation accounts. University Printing is the preferred campus resource to implement and ensure University branding integrity from design to production and distribution. University units and its associated entities should follow the General Purchasing Policy, PPM chapter 6310, which states that university officials and employees should purchase from university departments whenever feasible.

.040 Graphic Design Services

University Printing offers graphic design services that include signage, flyers, brochures, published materials, packaging design, posters, banners, promotional materials, and more. Staff is available to work with clients on levels of need, from file formatting for print preparation to new project design creation. University printing graphic design services ensure materials adhere to university branding guidelines.

.050 Bulk Mailing Services

University Printing manages the bulk mail permit for Kansas State University. It also manages a non-profit permit for reduced-rate mailings. All mailings using the bulk mail or non-profit permits must be submitted through University Printing per authorization of the United States Postal Service.

Bulk mailings must meet detailed specifications and minimum quantity requirements as set by the United States Postal Service. CASS certification (address verification) is available as a stand-alone or add-on service for all mailings.

.060 Shipping Services

Shipping services with FedEx, UPS, USPS, and DHL are available through University Printing. University Printing can ship individual, multiple, bulk, or palletized items.

.070 Fulfillment/Distribution Services

University Printing serves as the warehouse and distribution center for K-State Research and Extension. Extension and Research program materials are available electronically and/or in print. Promotional materials for K-State Research and Extension and 4H are available for purchase and distribution. University colleges/units may also contract with University Printing to warehouse and distribute customized mission-related products.

.080 Charges

Charges for printing, duplicating, mailing, shipping, and fulfillment/distribution services will be made following the current policy and procedures as prescribed in the university Policy and Procedures Manual. University Printing is a service-clearing unit of the University and does not receive budgeted funds.

.090 Locations

University Printing offers walk-up copy and shipping services at the K-State Student Union and in Umberger Hall for students, faculty, and staff. Services are provided for both university-related business and personal business. Customer service representatives are available at both locations to discuss all printing and shipping projects, large or small.
