Submitted by Susanne Renberg

Romulo Lollato, Professor of the Week

Romulo Lollato, associate professor of agronomy, was recognized as Professor of the Week at the Nov. 5 men's home basketball game. Faculty Senate, the Office of the President, K-State Athletics and the Division of Communications and Marketing wish to recognize his contributions to K-State.

In his current role, Lollato provides leadership for an interdisciplinary team of students, visiting scholars and postdocs working on different research projects focused on increasing wheat and alfalfa yield and profit at the farm level through improved management practices, as well as to better understanding crop interactions with the surrounding environment. Lollato has been pioneering analyses of crop sustainability across the value chain, which can inform industry partners on best avenues to compensate growers for sustainably grown produce.

Lollato has authored 70 peer-reviewed research publications. His applied research program feeds information directly to his extension program, where he has developed and delivered more than 750 extension presentations to more than 35,000 stakeholders representing diverse national and international agriculture-related clientele. Lollato also reaches out to stakeholders via radio and TV interviews, press releases, KSRE publications and social media.

His extension, research and service commitments have rendered him a number of national and international recognitions. Some recent ones include the 2024 K-State University Outstanding Scholar Award, the 2023 Extension Education Award by the Crop Science Society of America, the 2023 Excellence in Extension Award by Gamma Sigma Delta-Kansas State University chapter, and the Outstanding Paper Award by Crop Science Society of America C3 Division for three consecutive years, 2022, 2021 and 2020.
