Submitted by David Yetter

The University Committee on Religious, Spirituality and Nonreligious Diversity presents the global observance information for Nov. 11-17.

Gurū Nānak's Birthday —  Friday, Nov. 15. Tradition: Sikhism. Commemorates the birth of Gurū Nānak, also known as Bābā Nānak, who was the founder of Sikhism and is the first of the 10 Sikh Gurus.

Nativity Fast — Friday, Nov. 15, through Tuesday, Dec. 24. Tradition: Orthodox Christian. Period of reflection and ascetic discipline in preparation for the celebration of the Feast of the Nativity, popularly called Christmas. Dates given are for Orthodox communities like that in Manhattan which use the New Calendar. Communities using the Old Calendar keep the fast and celebrate Christmas 13 days later.

The University Committee on Religious, Spiritual and Nonreligious Diversity offers these weekly announcements in partial fulfillment of its mandate to ensure that K-Staters of all religious, spiritual and nonreligious backgrounds are seen as valued members of our community.
