Advisor Forum presents November Charlie Award

Submitted by Kathy Huser

The K-State Advisor Forum is excited to announce that Amy Brox, academic advisor in the Alan Levin Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering, has been selected for the November Charlie Award.

Brox was nominated for this award by Crystal Strauss for her passion for advising and her commitment to the students.

Strauss wrote, "I nominated Amy Brox because she consistently demonstrates passion and commitment to student success. Through her guidance and support, she helps students navigate academic challenges and celebrates their accomplishments. Amy's exceptional contributions to the department ensure that student voices are not only heard but also valued and acknowledged. Her commitment to advising is truly admirable. In addition to advising hundreds of students, Amy is the Graduate Program Coordinator for the MNE Department.

One advisee wrote, “Amy is an outstanding member of the K-State MNE department. Amy is eager to help students with anything she can, from class planning to personal issues to thinking about their future plans. She is always gentle, kind and genuinely cares about each student, whether they are her advisees or not. Personally, Amy has always encouraged me to balance my class work while enjoying my college experience and she has helped me plan my semesters in a way that I am able to do that. Amy is intentional, thoughtful and overall a wonderful advisor and asset in the K-State MNE department.

Another of Brox’s advisees said, “In my time at K-State, Amy has been extraordinarily helpful, friendly and kind. I always felt good walking into her office because I knew that if anything came up Amy would be more than willing to help me through it in a caring and efficient way. Amy is always making sure I am involved around campus, showing me opportunities, I may be interested in, and generally making me feel important during our meetings. When I first enrolled, my KSIS acted somewhat unpredictably, and Amy was extraordinarily helpful in helping me work through my difficulties or directing me to people who could. Amy was an integral part of making my unfavorable circumstances not only streamlined but enjoyable."

Kevin Wanklyn, mechanical and nuclear engineering undergraduate program director, added, “Amy Brox possesses a unique set of skills that make her an exceptional advisor for the mechanical and nuclear engineering department. Having earned her mechanical engineering degree from K-State, she is well-acquainted with the curriculum's challenges and pitfalls. Amy is a reliable and knowledgeable resource, consistently seeking ways to create efficient processes and simplify complex information. I am very glad we have Amy in the department and am proud of the positive impact she has had, and will continue to have, on our students."

We would like to thank Brox for the work she does and congratulate her on this award.
