Reminder: Create your online fall 2024 TEVAL

Submitted by Margaret Mohr-Schroeder

As the end of the semester approaches, don't forget to schedule your online TEVALs. The deadline to create an online TEVAL is Dec. 13, but you are encouraged to set them up earlier, so you are prepared for the end of the semester. The last day that you can offer TEVALs to students is Dec. 17. After grades have been released, reports can be retrieved by the primary instructor in Canvas.

Eight-week courses that started at the beginning of the semester should ideally set up the TEVALs on Canvas immediately. Instructors of these courses who wish to see their report prior to the end of the semester should contact the Teaching and Learning Center to request them after their grades are submitted.

The Teaching and Learning Center staff worked with students to produce a video that explains the importance and use of TEVALs, as well as information on how to provide effective feedback for faculty. Please take a few minutes to view this video, and please encourage your students to view it before completing the TEVALs.

Please note that the University Handbook Section C.34 clearly indicates that "student feedback should never be the only source of information about classroom teaching" and that we need to use a "flexible approach to teaching evaluation." Examples of what to include in portfolio assessments of teaching, in addition to student feedback, are also listed in University Handbook Section C.34.

Teaching and Learning Center staff also developed a video to help you set up your TEVALs on Canvas. If you have additional questions, please contact the Teaching and Learning Center at teachingandlearning@k-state.edu
