Natural resources and environmental science secondary major students to present capstone research projects
Students in the natural resources and environmental sciences, or NRES, secondary major capstone course will discuss findings from their semesterlong multidisciplinary research projects from 9:40-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, in Room 1066 of Rathbone Hall.
Student researchers this semester come from six different majors within the colleges of Agriculture, Arts and Sciences, and Engineering.
Four projects will be presented in both seminar and poster formats, including "The Relationship between Public Approval and Ecosystem Services provided by Campus Green Spaces," "Decoding Water's Journey: Precipitation Isotopes and Weather Interactions," "Soil Lead Contamination in Kansas State University Campus and Suggested Remediation Strategies," and "Young Adult Perceptions of Climate Change and Natural Resource Sustainability."
Students were mentored this semester by Trisha Moore, associate professor of biological and agricultural engineering; Saranya Puthalath, NRES graduate fellow in biology; Chandima Wekumbura, NRES graduate fellow in agronomy; and Jean Ribert Francois, NRES graduate fellow in geography and geospatial sciences.
The presentations are open to the public. Undergraduate students interested in natural resources, environmental science, and sustainability issues are especially encouraged to attend. The NRES secondary major is open to all Kansas State University students and is supported by the College of Agriculture, College of Arts and Sciences, department of biological and agricultural engineering, and department of geography and geospatial sciences.
