Beach Museum of Art curator Aileen June Wang to speak at the Mattatuck Museum

Submitted by Jui Mhatre

Aileen June Wang, Beach Museum of Art curator, will visit the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, Connecticut, on March 5 and 6 in connection with the traveling exhibition “Homeward to the Prairie I Come: Gordon Parks Photographs from the Beach Museum of Art.” Co-curated by Wang and Sarah Price, museum collections manager, the traveling exhibition originated at the Beach Museum of Art in 2021 as part of a large research project on Gordon Parks initiated by the museum and the K-State Department of English.

On March 5, Wang will discuss how Parks' approach to photography evolved in the second half of his career, primarily looking at photographs that Parks donated to K-State in 1973. The following day, Wang will lead a gallery discussion of selected Parks photographs using ideas from the discussion facilitation method Visual Thinking Strategies.
