Building Next-Gen Leadership series continues March 24-26

Submitted by Human Resources - Talent & Organizational Development

The Building Next-Gen Leadership series will provide its seventh topic, "Resilience Through Change."

The latest workshop is the second of three offered this spring. The series teaches leadership concepts and develops community, especially around the university's Next-Gen K-State strategic plan. Any employee who aspires to lead, regardless of position or title, is invited to participate.

The March workshop will be offered three times to reach as many employees as possible — two in-person sessions on the Manhattan campus and one virtual for employees who can't attend in person. Registration is required.

Workshop description: Leadership is a constant process of adaptation as we work to better the things we care about in this world. Anyone who has ever tried to move people toward change has probably heard the phrase, “People just don’t like change!” One could argue it isn’t change that people don’t like, but all of the things they stand to lose when change occurs. This workshop will help us explore the topic from two perspectives: how to help build resilience in others when you initiate the change and, on the flip side, how to have resilience when you are going through change.

The first in-person session will be held from 1:30-3 p.m. Monday, March 24, in Town Hall, Leadership Studies Building. Snacks will be provided.

The second in-person session will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, in the Wildcat Chamber, K-State Student Union. Lunch will be provided.

A virtual session will be 3-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 26.

The series is facilitated by Amanda Cebula, adjunct instructor at K-State’s Staley School of Leadership and former director of project and business development at the Kansas Leadership Center, where she co-authored the book “Your Leadership Edge: Tools and Strategies for When Everyone Leads.” She received her bachelor’s degree in communication studies from K-State with minors in music and leadership studies. She also earned a master’s degree in management and leadership from Webster University.

The series has been popular with employees, with more than 850 participating in the first five workshops: "Courage: Leading Starts With You," "Impact: Closing the Gap," "Communication: The Art of Listening and Asking Questions," "Conflict: How to Make It Productive," "Working Across Factions: How to Lead Among Differences and Take Care of Yourself." Special recordings of these workshops are available on the Building Next-Gen Leadership webpage.
