New Faculty Institute invites new faculty to tour the Konza Prairie
All new faculty — those starting in 2012 or 2013 — are invited to experience the Konza Prairie Bison Loop Tour from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19. Bring your family to this event to learn about the tallgrass prairie.
The Konza Environmental Education Program offers guided tours of the Konza Prairie Biological Station, giving you the opportunity to see parts of the prairie not usually open to the public.
We will gather at the Konza Ranch House at 9 a.m. Then we'll board a school bus to take the tour. Bring your cameras. Afterwards, we will convene for a picnic and finish around 1 p.m.
The Bison Loop Tour is a driving tour of a restricted access area. Bison were introduced to the Konza Prairie in 1987 and now number about 300.
Known worldwide as one of the premier sites for ecological research, Konza Prairie Biological Station is an 8,600 acre native tallgrass prairie preserve and research center jointly owned by The Nature Conservancy and Kansas State University. Managed by K-State's Division of Biology, the biological station is dedicated to a three-fold mission of long-term ecological research, education and prairie conservation.
Sign up deadline is Oct. 10. For more information about the tour or the New Faculty Institute, contact Esther Swilley at esthers@ksu.edu or 785-532-6135.
